Keep Your Dog Safe With a GPS Containment and Tracking System
by Tim Hancock

The GPS containment, training and tracking systems in use today are the offspring of a concept that was patented in 2007. It all starts with an advanced wireless control Station which continually communicates with the pet's fencing collar to track their distance from a defined safe boundary around a home's yard. These controls are very small and produce a much more useful and safe area for the pet to run, compared to that of other fencing methods. Now dog owners can train and contain their dogs with the GPS system that is completely portable and easy to set up anywhere you can obtain a GPS signal. This enables the unit to be used at home, taken to the field and on family trips to provide an easy to use containment area for dogs that weigh over 35 pounds.

An invaluable tool in the field, a GPS systems helps you achieve optimum performance from your sporting dogs. It combines proven GPS dog tracking with electronic dog training technology. This easy-to-use integrated handheld system allows you to track and train your dogs in the field at a range of up to 9 miles away, delivering their exact position as often as every 2.5 seconds. With multiple handheld devices, pinpoint up to 20 dogs or hunters' exact positions on a touchscreen display even when they are out of sight. Many are preloaded with TOPO U.S. 100K maps, so you'll always know your surroundings. Your unit will allow you to have a better-than-real-life view of terrain, including roads, water, woods and more. You can measure each dog's speed, distance and the direction being traveled. Plus, receive notifications when a dog has "Treed" or "On Point." There are systems that help you train and control your dogs to stop chasing unwanted game. With some units, easy to access training buttons allow you to communicate separately to each dog through safe and effective features, including multiple levels of momentary or continuous stimulation or an audible tone or vibe command. Plus, a lockout setting is available on some devices to avoid accidental stimulation or tone.

With some products, you can take charge of your next adventure with software that lets you view and organize maps, waypoints, routes, and tracks. Some products have trip-planning software that even allows you to create outdoor adventures that you can share with friends, family or fellow explorers. The software displays topographic map data in 2-D or 3-D on your computer screen, including contour lines and elevation profiles. It also can transfer an unlimited amount of satellite images to your device when paired with the correct Satellite Imagery subscription.

You can load your laptop with software to turn it into a field control center for tracking multiple dogs and/or buddies (up to 20 tracking units & collars). View real-time GPS information on the larger display of your computer, making it ideal for canine search and rescue teams. Since these systems use GPS, you'll get safe, secure and more effective tracking, even where Internet and cell phone service isn't available.
