10 Ways to Clean Your Bird Cage
by Charlie Prenicolas

The most time consuming task when having a pet is cleaning its living area. You cannot neglect this task since it is very important if you want to have a healthy and happy pet. A dirty cage could cause sickness and restlessness to your pet bird. Here are 10 ways to clean your bird's cage.

1. Before proceeding to clean the cage, make sure that you have a safe place to put your pet in. It shouldn't have any open doors or windows so that your bird cannot fly away.

2. Your bird's eating dish and toys must first be removed from the cage. So does the bird's perch.

3. For a cage with a removable bottom, it has to be detached and cleaned of droppings and dirt.

4. If it doesn't have a removable bottom then all you need to do is empty the droppings into a garbage tray or trash bin.

5. Every part of the cage must be cleaned so put them under hot water and clean them using soap and cleansers that are nontoxic.

6. You can use a brush to clean away the dirt and droppings that may have clung to the bird cage or you can also use a sponge with soap and cleansers.

7. Always use hot water and dry the bird cage well before using it again.

8. For a 2 part bird cage, it is important to reassemble the cage first before drying it out with a clean cloth, making sure that every inch is clean and dry.

9. The toys, dishes, perches and all other accessories must be cleaned with hot water and soap. Scrub them well before drying with a dry clean cloth.

10. Everything should be put back together after drying. Be sure that everything is securely in place. You can then put the bird back into the cage.

Clean the area where you washed the bird cage and accessories after using. If you have a hard time removing some dirt or dried dropping from the cage and its accessories, soak them in hot water mixed with soap. This should loosen the dirt making it easier for you to scrub or sponge it off. It is better to use paper trays to catch the droppings. It is more convenient to use since you just throw the soiled trays after using.
